Gooseberry Island

Gooseberry Island is a long and narrow strip of land in Pelican Lake, with sandy beaches on both sides. Gooseberry Island has become a go-to party spot, where boats line up along the shore, creating a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for floating on your favorite floaties, sipping on refreshing drinks, and having an absolute blast with your pals.

Despite being under resort ownership, the island remains accessible to the general public, further augmenting its appeal and popularity.

In addition to its chill ambiance, Gooseberry Island has an interesting history with an unlikely creature: Goats. The resort strategically introduced temporary goat residents to the island, employing their presence to manage the growth of poison ivy and regulate vegetation.

Though the island no longer accommodates resident caprines, Gooseberry is still bustling with wildlife activity. The east side is inhabited by large flocks of birds, a rookery, prominently occupied by seagulls and cormorants.

So whether you’re in the mood for a lakeside shindig, an island picnic, or a front-row seat to the avian world, Gooseberry Island on Pelican Lake promises an unforgettable adventure that blends social fun with the wonders of nature.

How to get there:

From the public dock, carefully exit the bay by the resort (the entrance to this bay is shallow and a no wake zone). The island is roughly a mile southeast from the bay entrance. Most people park their boats or water vehicles on the north side of the island, especially in the middle and west sides. Avoid the east side, which is heavily populated with birds.
